National Women’s Soccer League Reaches $5M Deal to End Sex Abuse Case

The National Women’s Soccer League has agreed to pay $5 million to players who were abused by coaches and officials to end a probe by three attorneys general into player safety.

According to a statement issued by the Office of New York Attorney General Letitia James, the league has also agreed to new protocols to improve player safety, including coach vetting, installing multiple mechanisms for players to report misconduct and establishing a league safety officer. It will also provide free and unlimited counseling services to players.
