About half of the Fortune 500 companies with general counsel or chief legal officer openings last year hired internal candidates and about half went with outside candidates, new research from the recruiting firm BarkerGilmore shows.
Thirty-three of the 68 Fortune 500 openings were filled with internal candidates, Barker Gilmore found, an internal hiring rate of 49%.
