‘Careless Execution’ of Presidential Pardons Freed Convicted Sex Trafficker, US Judge Laments

A Long Island federal judge has issued an opinion highlighting the “careless execution” of presidential pardon power which has now commuted the sentence of a convicted sex trafficker as part of a sweeping effort to free inmates serving time for non-violent drug offenses.

In the past, presidential pardons and grants of clemency “have generally been uncommon,” typically ranging between a few dozen to several hundred in any given year, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Brown of the Eastern District of New York writes.
