Beverly Square West Standalone With Parking Asks $7,600

In the Flatbush micro nabe of Beverly Square West, this standalone offers quite a bit of space for a renter. The five-bedroom home at 340 Marlborough Road also has wood floors, a mantel, outdoor space, and parking.

Beverly Square West and neighboring Beverly Square East (also spelled Beverley) were the brainchild of developer T.B. Ackerson. He crafted the neighborhoods after purchasing acres of former Flatbush farmland, and by 1901 was busy constructing substantial dwellings. An ad in 1902 boasted buyers had 56 designs from which to choose.

A 1905 map shows this house and its neighbors already in place on the street (formerly known as East 15th Street). No. 340 is noted as a 2.5-story dwelling with a brick first story. Ackerson filed plans for a number of houses on this side of the block in 1904 using several different architects, including Benjamin Driesler and A. W. Pierce. The historic tax photo shows this dwelling has survived with much of its architectural detail intact, including a second story with both an oriel window and a balcony with a peaked gable.

This whole-house rental includes a generously sized main level with parlor, dining, and kitchen. The kitchen has a white penny tile floor with black grout, wood cabinets, and a copper apron front sink. Appliances include a dishwasher.

A laundry room and a half bath are also included on the first floor, while the bedrooms are spread over the upper two floors. All the bedrooms shown have wood floors, and the primary one has French doors leading out to the balcony.

There is a finished basement with another full bath for a total of 3.5 baths in the house.

The listing notes that the owner is looking for a long term tenant, and the occupant will be responsible for all utilities as well as landscaping costs.

Alexandra Reddish of Compass has the listing, and the house is priced at $7,600 a month. What do you think?
