U.S. appellate judge Timothy Tymkovich urged members of Congress on Tuesday to pass a bill adding federal judgeships to understaffed courts facing high caseloads.
“The shortage of judges is having a profound effect on the American public,” Tymkovich told a House Judiciary subcommittee. “Citizens rely on the efficient and timely administration of justice, but the shortage is causing significant delays for litigants seeking to resolve cases in the federal courts, especially civil cases such as copyright, trademark, patent and contract disputes, which may take years to get to trial.”
