About the Inter-College Electoral Competition

The deciding factor that uplifts a civilised society into an egalitarian one is the type of governance that persists in that society. All along the past and around the globe, many forms of government existed in and out, but the form that stood out and has been universally accepted is ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’.

Not all the civilised communities that ratified democracy theoretically, have efficiently transformed it into practice; sometimes, portraying it as a myth. Nonetheless, it has been stamped firmly as the most coherent form among many. What streamlines this is when it gets coupled with literacy. Yes, Education and Awareness strengthens democracy. Saveetha School of Law proudly brings in National Inter-college Electoral Competition’ under the head ‘INK n’ INDEX’ with the following objectives:

  1. to efficiently analyze the political reality with the existing laws
  2. to impart electoral awareness among the participants.
  3. to inculcate the spirit of participative governance among the youth.

What do we Expect?

The Organising Committee expects that the participants shall have basic political and electoral knowledge and current affairs. Additionally, good oratory skill with rational mind, sensibleness, tactfulness and responsibleness would make the participants enjoy the competition.

Registration Process

  1. The participating team should comprise 2 members. The event is scheduled for 2 days, namely February 25 and 26, 2025, as hereinafter mentioned.
  2. The Competition is open for students pursuing three/ five-year undergraduate courses or postgraduate courses in Law from a recognised Law College/University in India, subject to fulfilment of the registration formalities. The team members shall be students of the same institution.
  3. Number of teams from an institution shall not exceed 3, subject to the maximum limit for the competition mentioned below.
  4. The teams shall first make a provisional registration in the link mentioned at the end of this post.
  5. After provisional registration, the team would receive a confirmation mail from the organising committee, consisting of Team code, Final Registration Link, Template for Letter of Authorisation (to be completed and uploaded by the teams) and payment details. The teams can proceed with the payment, only after the communication of confirmation mail.
  6. After payment, the participating teams shall fill the final registration form shared via confirmation mail.
  7. Registration for the competition will be based on the FIRST COME FIRST SERVE rule. The maximum number of teams that can register and participate in the competition is 20. The Organising Committee has the discretion to increase the number of teams.
  8. The registration fee for the competition is Rs. 1,500/ per team. [Rupees One Thousand and Five Hundred only].
  9. The registration fee includes lunch and refreshments on the days of competition for the team members only and does not include any accommodation for the participating teams.
  10. The registration shall be complete only upon successful payment and submission of the final registration form. The fee once paid is non-refundable.

General Instructions

  1. The teams will be provided with team codes from the organising committee, once their Provisional registration for the competition is confirmed, via e-mail. Thereinafter, the participating teams shall use the team code as their sole identity for the competition.
  2. The participating team shall not disclose the identity of their college throughout the competition to any other participating teams or the judges, except to the organizing committee on demand. Non-compliance of this requisite may lead to disqualification of the team from the competition.
  3. The participants are instructed to show their college Identity card during registration on the day of competition.
  4. The objective of this competition is to gain knowledge on the political system, nationally and globally, and to create awareness of elections and related laws.
  5. The medium of Competition shall be in ENGLISH only.
  6. Defamatory, Obscene, indecent, or scandalous language/ review/criticism in any form is prohibited. However fair, reasonable, and constructive review/ criticism is appreciated.
  7. Dress code: For Boys: Black pant, White shirt with Blazers and formal shoes. For Girls: White salwar and kurta with black waist coat or white shirt and black trousers along with black coat and black shoes.
  8. No accommodation will be provided to any participating teams by the organizing committee.
  9. Participation certificate and Appreciation certificate will be issued to the teams, only during the valedictory on day 2, and not before.
  10. The Organising Committee has the discretion to alter or amend any Rule / Schedule for competition and the same shall be intimated to the registered teams. The order and decision of the Organising Committee shall be FINAL and BINDING throughout the competition

Round 1: Scrutiny of Candidature

Segment 1: Politico Bingo

The one where the participants crack the code of two quirky 5 x 5 bingo boards —one packed with random political clues and the other having the corresponding answers. It’s all about putting on your political thinking cap and connecting the answers for the win!

Segment 2: Wikipedia Madness

The one where the participating teams race through the Wikipedia rabbit hole! Starting with the link to the first word, they must navigate only through intermediate Wikipedia pages to land on the second word’s link. It’s a click-hopping adventure of strategy and speed!

Segment 3: Politics meets Pictionary

The one where one teammate brings their artistic flair to life, sketching an election or politics-related word, while the other cracks the doodle magic to guess it. Politics meets Pictionary!

Segment 4: The Party Shuffle

The one where teammates flip their way to victory, matching political party cards with their perfect item pair! Think fast, remember well, and let the political card-matching frenzy begin!

Basic Rules for this Round

  • All the segments in this round are mandatory. Both the participants from the team have to be engaged in the segments.
  • Each segment has its own rules and maximum points.
  • An overall time of 10 to 15 minutes, will be given to the participating teams to complete all the segments in this round.
  • Details about the rules, scoring criteria and time period for this round will be given a week prior to the event date.

Round 2: The Nation Wants to Know

  1. All the Participating teams will be engaged in Round 2.
  2. Here 20 Political Emergencies will be given by the organizing committee.
  3. “The nation is facing an imminent danger, the people and government are at stake. A shift action is required from the ruling party to counter the danger. The Head of the state government summons a War Room with important Ministries and officials to deliberate and prepare strategies to safeguard the state from danger. Post meeting, the press people are awaiting the address of the spokespersons. The nation wants to know…”
  4. The Participating team shall assume themself to be the competent and responsible spokespersons of the ruling government and shall address the press conference stimulated by the Organising Committee, thereby answering the plight of voters. The imminent danger or the political emergency will be chosen by the teams by lot. Priority in drawing the lots will be in the order of Registration of the participating teams.
  5. The press people will be firing questions on behalf of the people with regard to the political emergency drawn and the participants as the spokesperson shall deliberate them responsibly. Each member of the team shall allot themselves a political or administrative character while addressing the press. (like CM, any minister, any secretary, etc).
  6. Both the participants have to contribute in their presentation mandatorily; however, the time given can be split at the teams’ discretion, among its members
  7. Further clarity with regard to political emergencies will be made a week before the date of competition.
  8. NOTE: Round 1 and Round 2 are common for all the participating teams
  9. Furthermore, each member of the press conference shall give their rating for the teams out of 5; that in turn will be added to scores of the judges.

Finale: First Past the Post

  1. Marks secured by the teams from Round 1 and Round 2 will be aggregated and top 3 scorers will be declared as finalists at the end of Day 1. Thereafter, the finalists shall prepare a PPT presentation for the finale.
  2. The Theme of this round is a Secret Ballot Election, wherein finalists will be the candidates contesting in an election and there will be 800 electorates in the hall who will be electing their preferred candidate among the three.
  3. A common election scenario will be given by the organising committee.
  4. The details about PPT and the time limit for the presentation will be given a week prior to the event.
  5. Finals will be conducted with approximately 800 electorate. Each team will be given a time of 15 – 20 minutes to present themselves, before the audience (electorate), for the purpose of canvassing them as to why they need to be elected and come into power.
  6. The audience will be present and listening to the manifestations and propaganda made by the finalists and they will be given one vote each, to choose their preferred candidate.
  7. After the presentation by the finalists, a secret ballot election will be conducted.
  8. The finalist who secures the popular votes will be announced as the winner of Ink n’ Index 2025.
