Freedom to end $35/50GB Canada/U.S./Mexico and other plans on January 27

Quebecor’s Freedom Mobile is finally set to end its long-running plans, including the $35/50GB Canada/U.S./Mexico option.

Per a new notice on Freedom’s website, Freedom will end several plans on January 27th. The plans slated to end include:

  • $35/50GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico
  • $45/75GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico
  • $55/100GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico
  • $29/10GB 5G Canada/U.S./Mexico

Both the postpaid and prepaid versions of the above plans are marked to end. Additionally, it’s worth noting the above prices all include a $5/mo credit that lasts 18 months and a $5/mo autopay discount. Freedom has two other Canada/U.S./Mexico plans that have special prices for bundling with home internet, but those didn’t have end dates at the time of writing.

It’s not clear what will change on January 27th. Freedom may intend to remove portions of the plans, such as deprecating the $5/mo credit or axing the Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming. Or the provider could totally revamp its suite of plans with new offers.

Freedom has offered some version of a 50GB 5G plan in the $35 range for over a year. As far back as Black Friday 2023, Freedom added a $34/50GB plan. For a time, the company had a $39/50GB plan, but in mid-2024, it revamped its plans to what we have now.

Here’s hoping whatever changes on January 27th, we don’t see a significant price increase. Freedom’s plans have offered lower prices and great value for a while, which I think pressured other providers to offer lower prices, too. Telus-owned Public Mobile, for example, has offered various $35/50GB plans that are very similar to Freedom’s offers. And right now, Koodo and Fido are offering plans like $40/60GB. Granted, the plans are slightly more expensive and only offer 4G data, but it’s clear they’re trying to stay close to the $35/50GB bar.

Since we don’t know how Freedom will change its plans on the 27th, anyone on the fence about switching to Freedom may want to take advantage before these deals go away.
